Cece Witherspoon, Student ASID

Cece Witherspoon is a graduate student at the Corcoran School of Arts & Design at George Washington University working towards a Master’s in Interior Architecture. Her interest in interior design focuses on spatial planning along with creating engaging and functional spaces. Witherspoon’s degree, paired with an undergraduate degree in Art and History, guides her approach to design as she uses each to inform her process of conducting research, analytical thinking, and visualization.

The ASID Student Portfolio Competition is open to applications from both ASID student members and non-members. Applications are free for ASID and IDC members. For non-members, the application fee is $85 and includes ASID student membership.  

Jury Process  

The jury will assess each submission on concept (how does this represent the way the student thinks?), content (how does this submission represent the student’s ability?), context (how does the submission represent who the student is and what the student has accomplished?), and execution (how well does the student communicate the content and value of their work?).

  • Submissions will be judged in three rounds by nationally recognized leaders and sponsor representatives.

    • Round 1: Online review of all complete submissions. The highest scored submissions will move on to Round 2 as semi-finalists.  

    • Round 2: All semi-finalists will be reviewed by the 2023 jury.

    • Round 3: All finalists will participate in a series of virtual interviews with the 2023 jury.

  • Following the interviews, the jury will select up to three 2023 Student Portfolio Competition winners.

2022-2023 Timeline

December 8, 2022 – Submissions Open

February 22, 2023 – All Submissions Due  
Submissions will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. EST on February 22

March 13, 2023 – Semi-Finalists Informed  

March 31, 2023 – Finalists Informed  

April 10-14, 2023 – Mandatory Virtual Interviews for Finalists  

April 17, 2023 – Winners Notified 

August 13 – 15, 2023GATHER Student Programming in Los Angeles. Winners will present their portfolio and process to a national audience. Winners will receive a travel stipend (sponsored by Benjamin Moore) to attend GATHER 2023.

Access to GATHER

With the support of Benjamin Moore, competition finalists and winners receive complimentary registration for GATHER. Additionally, competition winners will receive travel stipends to attend the event.
 

National Media Exposure

Enjoy the spotlight! As a competition winner, your talent will generate buzz. Through  outreach and social media engagement, ASID will be proud to share the news of your accomplishments with the ASID community and beyond. Finalists and winners will also be given social media graphics to promote to their own networks. Finalists and winners will be featured on the ASID website for a full year until the next competition’s honorees are named, showcasing your excellence to our broad membership of interior design leaders. 

Scholarship Funds

Each competition winner receives a $6,000 scholarship to help you continue your journey in the interior design field and empower you to grow in your chosen profession.

Eligibility

  • Must be enrolled as a student in the U.S. or Canada as of September 1, 2022.

Cost to Enter

  • $0 for ASID and IDC student members. One submission per student.
  • $85 per non-member submission (includes an ASID student membership valid until you graduate).
